Recognizing seasons, times, phases, trends of history and how they impact us for the long term

There is a need for training and education vs mediocrity and ignorance!

Moments in History 1051Chronicles 12:32 "Of the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their kinsmen were at their command".

The field of education is  a very important one in our lives and hence in our societies. Without education one remains ignorant and left to his/her own devices, having to discover the world by many trial and error experiments. Imagine  we had to “re-invent” the wheel in every discipline man has discovered in thousands of years ? Imagine the set back, waste of energy, time and know-how ?

The devil's will is that we remain ignorant of who we are, where we come from and what our calling is. As we also well know the seed-bed of extremist movements largely benefit from  the gaps of ignorance or twisted knowledge.

2Corinthians 2:11 "...so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes".

1Corinthians 12:1 "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware (ignorant)".

God on the contrary wants to reveal these important elements to us in order to educate us and train us so as to be equipped for every good work.

2Timothy 3:13-17 "But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work".

In society  the cost of education is always very high, and often criticized for this very fact. State budgets for education often suffer cuts and teachers are not always well paid nor rewarded for their important efforts.

A too high number of youths learn far too little in their school years for lack of money, motivation and support from  families; an increasing number leave school with a literacy problem, unable to read, write and count well enough to face life in an ever changing environment. In time, those millions of people will become easy preys to politicians and manipulators to fulfil their agendas.

Indeed proper education is paramount in our computer age; it is not enough to be a  computer geek or iphone addict to face life correctly and aptly; one also has to learn how to think properly, understand history, understand how the world ticks, as well as having  a sound  financial education if one does not want to swept in by the big and strong currents of political, financial and media manoeuvring that are subtly threatening to rob us of our liberties.

What then can we say  to any detractor of sound and proper education? Well, the option is ignorance, isn't it ?  So if you think  education costs too much - try ignorance!!!

Even if such a statement is obvious, it is still appalling to see the level of ignorance we tolerate in our lives, families, the world, even our churches. The problem is that we all too often tolerate mediocrity and resist change. These are not good ingredients for learning and progressing.

“We all too often tolerate mediocrity and resist change”.

Should we then all have a Master's or Doctorate degree? Should we all go to university? Is that the criteria? Since it would not be realistic to think this way, I still think that for those who did not have this opportunity to receive (high) education or who failed it, there is still no excuse in today's world not to engage in a life-long process of learning in order to avoid wallowing in a state of ignorance.

In years past it was accepted that since the advent of TV, the communication level in families became more and more succinct and shallow; someone even said, that TV had improved the situation so much, that there are no more  communication problems, since there's no more communication ! What could we say of today's situation?

In years past it was also accepted that if we tended our gardens the same way we raise our children, we'd live in a jungle! Well, today, we are in that jungle!

Too many of our youths are no more raised and instructed by their parents in a righteous way; many parents are at a loss to know what is right and wrong for themselves, let alone for their children! Too many youths are  left to their own devices, having the “street” raise them and too many later on, become outcasts, criminals or outright terrorists for lack of other options or knowing better.

It is high time the Church come into the fabric of our loose, licentious, liberal and clearly lost societies to not only preach the Gospel but also through the christian message, to attempt to re-educate those who need it, so they do not become easy preys to extremisms of all kinds, but rather discover, and learn how to lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

1Timothy 2:1-4 "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior".
