Balance, like wisdom in Christian circles, is often either misunderstood, neglected or resisted. It is considered a boring subject and approach to life; yet it is part of the very gist of life!
A tower out of balance is a catastrophy waiting to happen; a boat out of balance is a ship wreck; a body out of balance is a sick body; a runner out of balance is a casualty; a business out of balance is a bankruptcy ; a church out of balance is a disgrace (living out of the grace required to be balanced and pertinent) and needs Reformation.
People are impressed by miracles, acts of power and spiritual gifts, thinking these are more thrilling than “just a wise balanced and well (re-)ordered life”, displaying the strength of coherence and consistency.
Did you know that acts of power, miracles God performs, are exactly a re-ordering of balance in the physical, material or spiritual realm? You cannot prefer the one against the other. They are all part of God’s well ordered realm which he sometimes has to re-order; this is the main theme of this series of articles.
And see with these verses, what there is to be missed by not living a wise balanced life. For wisdom is not knowledge; it is said that knowledge is power; in that case how much stronger is wisdom for it is the proper application of knowledge.
Proverbs 3:13-14; 18-19 "How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding. For her profit is better than the profit of silver And her gain better than fine gold." "She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who hold her fast. The Lord by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens."
Proverbs 8:12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And I find knowledge and discretion",
Proverbs 9:1 "Wisdom has built her house,She has hewn out her seven pillars."
The issue here is again balance. To run this race of faith requires divine balance.
Hebrews 12:1:2 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:28 "Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear".
Shaking of nations…to gain a new balance...
Haggai 2:7 "I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts."
Shaking of the heaven and of the powers of the heavens... to gain a new balance...
Matthew 24:29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken."
Mark 13:25 "and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken."
Shaking yet once more/ of the earth and the heaven… to gain a new balance...
Hebrews 12:26-27 "And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain".
Receive this unshakable Kingdom… to live in a new realm of perfect balance...
Hebrews 12:28 "Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire."
