Moments in History 107

Recognizing seasons, times, phases, trends of history and how they impact us for the long term

If we do not want to turn around in circles in our lives, service, churches and ministries, we better learn well and quick how to apply the acquired knowledge with wisdom and strength to be received from on High!

Moments in History 107

1Chronicles 12:32 "Of the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their kinsmen were at their command"

Church history is probably as complex, full of twists and stories of failures and great victories as the rest of human history; that's because christians are as human as everybody else, let's not forget it!

True, christians have an “unfair” advantage, and that is that we can always call to God for rescue! But after all that privilege is not reserved to the Church, since ... "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

So, in order to avoid erring and wondering aimlessly in our lives with the end product of mediocrity, we need to reject ignorance and get involved in a pursuit of excellence.

We need to choose learning by training and revelation. We should not only be as well educated as possible but also increase in our knowledge of the truth, as revealed in the Scriptures by the Holy Spirit.

We should also take heed and be taught by the great lessons that history can teach us in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes; we should also receive fresh, anointed and Bible-based teaching and revelation in order to enter into God's sure promises for our future. His promises are aimed at real people in real life situations.

If we do not want to turn around in circles in our lives, service, churches and ministries, we better learn well and quick how to apply the acquired knowledge with wisdom and strength to be received from on High!

For lack of that, Israel did just that, wonder aimlessly, for 40 years in the desert! They went around in circles for not recognizing a very special moment in their history, thus rejecting God's word and His promises for their future; and God decided this was so important a failure, that their example has been written and passed on to us in Scripture for our instruction.

Romans 15:4 "For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope".

1Corinthians 10:11 "Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come".

Israel was double-minded and doubted the promises of God, doubted the spies' report on the land to conquer; they were scared to envisage opposition and warfare in order to conquer their inheritance; they ended up choosing to ignore (ignorance) God's plan of blessing for them, they repeated this pattern until that doubting and fearful generation died in the desert (failure and mediocrity) and gave way to a new one who had to learn all the same, not to repeat the same mistakes and patterns.

Because they chose to doubt God's promises for provision and victory, they had neither the fruit of those promises, nor victory. How tragic....

Let's pray and be committed, so that the Church in our nations take up the invitation, the baton, that our Lord is offering us to enter the next page of our history, fully equipped with sound doctrine, solid past experience as well as a fresh anointed apostolic and prophetic insight and know-how, to announce and demonstrate his message to a dying world.
