"This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes" (Psalm 118:23)
Think of the way Jesus came into this world. He was born in a manger, came in all humilty, hidden from the public eye (although a star announced his coming and angels rejoiced over him in the sky…)
If ever there had come a precious, vital seed into the world, surely it was him! Many prophecies were accomplished by his birth but who how many have known and reckognized the coming of the Lord…even his own received him not!
"Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions,he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
But still he was destined to be called:
«Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this."
And also our great Shepherd and Overseer...
For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
"For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘ he will lead them to springs of living water."
He who gave some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers is the greatest apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher of all times!
"He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."
God sent his son not only to save, deliver, reveal the Father, teach, heal, comfort, he also came to shake and challenge the system of this world with his message ; otherwise the Herods, Pilates and the like of his time would never have feared him or given him such importance.
Although God had decided to start this new revelation process in a gentle manner, manifested through a baby born in a manger, he knew in advance he would bring division and a sword with his message and not leave the world indifferent.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."
The foolish things to confound the wise...
In the same way many things God starts and initiates (including in his Church) he does it in all simplicity, not in broad public light, nor seen by many at first.
God has chosen the weak and foolish things in this world to confound the wise with a wisdom that they had not and could not understand.
"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong."
We are told that the prophetic ministry started to be restored in the church some 20-30 years ago, although there has always been the prophetic voice in the Body of Christ all along Church history (all depending on the regions of the world, some experiencing it more than others); and it has been a real blessing but also a long challenging learning curve, and we are not finished learning, nor discovering the importance of this gift !
And we are not talking about the evangelical/pentecostal/charismatic moves which are still much older and have undergone a similar growing and learning process.
This great restoration move of the in-filling and gifting of the Holy Spirit, including the healing, deliverance and prophetic moves would simply not be where they are, if we all had just despised the days of small beginnings !
God’s ways are simply just not ours and we need to constantly be aware of that so as remain on the look out for God’s works.
Isaiah 55 8-11
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
Therefore we should cherish His ways and set our hearts to learn and live in them.
“Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!
“Now therefore, O sons, listen to me, For blessed are they who keep my ways."
"Give me your heart, my son, And let your eyes delight in my ways."
